Apprentices will achieve a practical and theory-based (or 'combined') qualification:

  • Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles

What apprentices will learn

Drivers will have a level of occupational competence and driving skills above that of the standard required for licence acquisition including pre-driving checks, the correct operation of a tachograph, loading of goods, and operating a laden vehicle with the driver's usual load. They will be able to drive to a high level of safety/security and return high levels of fuel efficiency and reduced wear and tear on the vehicle. 


This apprenticeship is delivered in the workplace. The apprentice gains the knowledge, skills and experience for working as a professional driver. 

The apprenticeship training is tailored to the needs of the individual employer and is delivered by highly qualified and technically competent training advisors. The programme is a blended combination of on the job tuition and assessment plus e-learning content and professional discussions.

Additional training may be included such as short courses in ADR carriage of dangerous goods and emergency First Aid at work as appropriate to the job.
